Russ Thompson’s goal in overtime provided the East Central Community College men’s soccer team with a 2-1 victory over Southwest Mississippi Community College Tuesday, Sept. 25 on the Decatur campus.
With the win, the Soccer Warriors improved to 5-3-2 overall. The squad has a 2-1-1 mark in the MACJC North Division.
Thompson’s game-winning kick came in the 98th minute of the non-division matchup. The freshman forward is a product of Newton County High School.
Clint McGraw also scored for EC and sent the contest into overtime with his goal in the 42nd minute. McGraw is a freshman forward from Tupelo Christian. Ronnie Tisdale and DeShawn Kitchens were credited with scoring assists. Tisdale is a sophomore midfielder/defender from Pascagoula and Kitchens is a sophomore forward from Florence.
Southwest took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Bryan Stewart-Bennett following a corner kick assist from Jonathon McGonagle.
The Bears dropped to 1-6-1.
