THE WALL O' SOUND
Mr. Tom Carson passed away around 10:00 AM Monday morning, May 6, 2013. A graduate of ECJC, Mr. Carson took over the 25-member band program in 1981 and cultivated it into one of the most successful community college bands in Mississippi. In his thirty years as head director, the ECCC "WALL O' SOUND" grew into a 180+ marching band. In August 2011, Mr. Carson was diagnosed with advanced esophageal cancer and given six months to live. He persevered and retired ten months later in June 2012 and continued leading his pride and joy, the ECCC Collegians rock band. Despite his ailing health, Mr. Carson's sense of optimism against the "alien" cancer and his powerful group of supporters, the "Army of Tom" kept him going. Sadly, the final Collegians concert was first postponed, then canceled as he dealt with the final rounds of his battle.
Though Mr. Carson is no longer with us, we still remember his smile, his funny stories, his wicked way of playing guitar, and the passion that he displayed every moment of every day and his undying dedication to his family and the ECCC family. May God bless Mr. Carson and his family in their time of loss.
Arrangements will be posted as they are finalized.

Six WALL O' SOUND members in the MJCCBA Inter-Collegiate Band
The ECCC WALL O' SOUND was represented well for the Mississippi Junior and Community College Band Association Inter-Collegiate Band. Held at the University of Southern Mississippi from February 7-9, the MJCCBA Inter-Collegiate Band performed tremendously under the direction of Anthony Maiello, the guest clinician from George Mason University. Pictured from left to right are Jessie Armstrong, Hannah Cade, Matt Graham, Samantha Farley, Zach Peden, and Leslie Young.
Congratulations to Shawn Windham for making Spirit of Atlanta!
Shawn Windham, of Morton, Mississippi, has been named a member of the Spirit of Atlanta of Drum Corps International (DCI). DCI hosts marching events throughout the summer, culminating in a grand finals held each August.
Spirit of Atlanta placed 11th overall in the 2012 Finals held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Their 2013 show is currently titled "Speakeasy." While the tour dates have not been set for this year, they will be performing in Hattiesburg, MS, during late July 2013.
Windham, one of the ECCC Color Guard Captains this fall, will be a part of the color guard. In order to travel with Spirit of Atlanta, Windham will be holding fundraisers to pay for his trip. If you are interested in supporting Shawn, please contact us!
