Danielle Cole, a standout basketball player the past two seasons at East Central Community College in Decatur, has signed a national letter of intent to continue her career at the University of West Alabama, announced Bill Smith, ECCC women’s head basketball coach.
Cole, a 5-7 guard, averaged 15 points and 5.9 rebounds for the 2009-10 Lady Warriors who finished 13-10.
The Philadelphia High School product scored a career-high 26 points against Pearl River on Feb. 15.
She received first team MACJC All-State and All-Star honors following the successful season, and received the Lady Warriors’ most valuable offensive player award at the recently held Spring Sports Awards banquet.
Cole is the first signee of new UWA head women’s coach Craig Roden upon his return to the Livingston campus.
“Your first signee in a program is always special,” Roden said in a news release from the school’s sports information department. “We think we have a good player in Danielle. She is a very versatile player that can play two to three positions. She plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor.”
Roden took the helm at UWA on March 23 and is beginning his second tenure as head coach and third stint at his alma mater.
