ECCC’s Ficklin Receives All-American Honors

Chris Ficklin

Chris Ficklin’s standout season as a member of the 2010 East Central Community College football team has once again received national attention as the freshman linebacker from Forest has received NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention honors.

Ficklin (5-11, 195) led the nation in total tackles with 126 – 78 solo stops and 48 assists. He is also credited with six quarterback sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Warrior head coach Brian Anderson said Ficklin is not only an outstanding football player but also an outstanding individual.

“All of us enjoy coaching great players, but when great players are great people, it makes our job even more enjoyable,” said Anderson. “Chris has set a high standard for his level of play and for our entire defense. He is as good a person off the field which also sets a standard for the rest of our team. Needless to say, we are very proud to have Chris Ficklin at East Central.”

Ficklin was earlier selected All-Region 23 and MACJC First Team All-State. He was chosen the Warriors’ Most Outstanding Defensive Skill Player at the annual Fall Sports Banquet.

He received NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week honors following his performance in the Warriors’ battle with Northwest Mississippi Community College on Sept. 9 in Senatobia.

Ficklin registered 17 tackles – including four stops for minus yardage – in the 41-26 loss. He was also credited with 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The defensive standout also received MACJC recognition following the Northwest game and for his performance in the Warriors’ 24-14 win over Jones County and the 42-35 loss to Copiah-Lincoln. Ficklin had 19 tackles in each contest.

He is a product of Scott Central High School, where he was chosen best linebacker.
