ECCC Continues to Offer Free ABE/GED Classes

East Central Community College in Decatur continues to provide free Adult Basic Education and General Educational Development-Preparation classes at various locations in the College’s five-county district. 

In Leake County, classes are offered from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Leake County Career-Technical Center.

Serving as instructors are Reggie Daugherty, Beth Wooten, Kelly Schmidt and Kathy Edwards, all of Carthage.

Classes in Neshoba County are held from 8 to noon Tuesday and Thursday and from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Thursday at the Philadelphia/Neshoba County Career-Technical Center.

Instructors are Virginia Kight, Barbara Booker and June Fulton, all of Philadelphia; and Susan Hisaw of Louisville.

In Newton County, instruction is provided from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday and from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in Ethridge Hall, Room 10 on the ECCC South Campus.

Providing instruction are Gloria and Larry Harms and Robin Milling-Hubble of Decatur; Mary and Bryan Burt of Newton; and Ed McGowan of Lawrence.

Classes in Scott County are offered from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Forest/Scott County Career and Technology Center.

Instructors are Zann Nutt and Teresa Lovett, both of Morton.

In Winston County, classes are provided from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the ECCC Career Advancement Center in Louisville.

Instructors are Janice Greene and Bobbie Ray, both of McCool, and Janice Hunter, Shelby Varner, Daphne Donald, Peggy Wallace and Kay Ward, all of Louisville.

Orientation for GED testing in Decatur is held at 1 p.m. each Wednesday in Room 10 of Ethridge Hall on the ECCC South Campus.

Potential examinees should bring a notarized GED Application, valid picture ID and the testing fee, which is $40 for the full test or $12 per section.

Applicants 17 years of age should also provide a drop slip confirming they are no longer attending high school.

GED Testing Dates in 2011 include January 14, 29; February 11, 26; March 11; April 8,16; May 6, 21; June 3, 25; July 9; August 5, 20; September 2, 17, 30; October 15, 28; November 12; and December 2, 17.
