A six-run fifth-inning propelled EC to a 10-4 victory in the opener, and the Diamond Warriors jumped out to a quick 9-2, third-inning lead in the nightcap and coasted 9-3 to complete the sweep.

Freshman right-hander Tyler Dalton got the win in relief, as he allowed one run on two hits through three innings. Dalton, a product of Winston Academy, also fanned one batter and walked one. Starter Barry Meeks, a freshman right-hander from Patrician Academy in Sweetwater, Ala., went four innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He also fanned two batters and walked a pair.

In the second contest, Darmaal Moore of Stone County and Vincent Kortbawi, a product of Hale County High School in Moundville, Ala., each homered and collected three RBIs apiece to lead the EC offense. Ernie Triplett of Louisville contributed two singles and one RBI. Other sluggers included Hill, double and one RBI; and Tabb, Long and Lawson, singles each.

Starter Colton Mitchell was the winning pitcher. Mitchell, a freshman southpaw from Lake, allowed two earned runs on four hits through four innings. He also fanned four batters and walked two. Southpaws Willard Bacon of Choctaw Central and Austin Buchanan of Neshoba Central and Tabb, a right-hander, hurled an inning each. Bacon allowed one hit and Buchanan gave up one run on two hits. Tabb finished the seven-inning matchup without allowing a hit or run in the final stanza.

Next up for the Diamond Warriors is a division doubleheader with Pearl River Community College beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 30 on the Poplarville campus. Two seven-inning matchups are scheduled.

The ECCC baseball team is led by head coach Neal Holliman and assistants Michael Avalon and Hunter Vick.
