Carrie Rushing’s unassisted goal in the 71st minute provided the East Central Community College women’s soccer team with their first win of 2010 – a 1-0 shutout over Southwest Tuesday, Aug. 31 on the Decatur campus.
Rushing, a freshman midfielder/forward, is a product of Newton County High School.
With the win, the Lady Soccer Warriors evened their record at 1-1 after falling to Co-Lin 3-2 in the season opener.
In men’s contest, the Warriors and Bears battled to a scoreless tie in double overtime.
The Warriors, who began season action with a 3-0 blanking of Copiah-Lincoln, are now 1-0-1 on the young season.
The Warriors host Wallace State at 2 p.m. Friday.
Both squads return to action Monday, Sept. 9 by taking on Gulf Coast on the Perkinston campus. The women’s match begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s contest at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Warriors and Warriors travel to Pearl River Wednesday, Sept. 8, with competition scheduled at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Home games are scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 16 with Holmes, beginning at 2 p.m.
