East Central Community College’s tennis teams recorded easy victories over Holmes Community College squads Thursday in Goodman.
The Lady Warriors won by an 8-1 score and evened their record at 3-3. The Warriors were also victorious by an 8-1 margin and improved to 2-4.
In women’s doubles, Elise Gibbs, a product of Newton County High School and Rachel Ramirez of Forest defeated Kayla Perry and Taylor Morgan, 8-3.
Lady Warriors winning in singles were Gibbs, who beat Jennifer Holland 6-1, 6-2, and Hannah Peoples of Newton County Academy, who clipped Morgan, 6-4, 6-2.
Ramirez fell 6-4,7-6 (7-5) in her match with Perry.
In men’s doubles, Colton Amis and Dee Walker, both Newton County products, beat Tye Steele and Joseph Dees, 8-4; Jason Hancock of Newton County and Will Marston of Union defeated Chris Houghton and Will Brunson, 8-3; and Zax White and Matt Griffin, both of Union, shut out Tanner McGraw and Jeffery Arnold, 8-0.
The Warriors continued their success in singles as Amis beat Steele, 6-0, 6-4; Marston defeated Brunston, 6-0, 6-4; Hancock over Houghton, 6-0, 6-3; Walker clipped Arnold, 6-4, 6-1; and Griffin cruised past Josh Pinkard, 6-3, 5-0 (retired).
EC squads host Itawamba Community College today (March 8) beginning at 1 p.m. at Gaddis Park in Forest. The Lady Warrior and Warrior netters are scheduled to host Mississippi Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, also at Gaddis Park.
