ECCC Orientation Scheduled Friday, August 13

A final orientation session is scheduled Friday, Aug. 13, for new and transfer students planning to attend the 2010 fall semester at East Central Community College in Decatur.

The orientation process begins in the Eddie M. Smith Student Union Building located on the west side of campus. Students can arrive anytime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. to register for fall classes, which begin Thursday, Aug. 19.

To complete registration, students should have the following information on file on the Office of Admissions, Records and Research: (1) a completed application for admission; (2) an ACT score (for academic/technical students only; does not apply to career students); (3) official high school transcript or GED; and (4) college transcript if a transfer student.

The only additional step for students to complete registration is to attend an orientation meeting the first week of classes or they may complete the process on the College Web site (www.eccc.edu) before the fall semester begins.

A computer lab will be set up the day of orientation so students may complete the orientation process that day.

Students should also be aware that the ACT (American College Test) sub-scores will continue to be used for placement in math and English. Students who have not sent a copy of their ACT scores to ECCC will be placed in Developmental English and math courses until their scores are received. Students may bring a copy of their ACT scores the day they register.

For additional ACT information, contact academic counselor Michael Alexander, 601-635-2111 or call toll free, 877-462-3222, ext. 231.

Students are also reminded that in order to receive MTAG (Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant) they must have taken the National ACT.

Orientation participants and parents are invited to join staff members for a complimentary lunch in Mabry Memorial Cafeteria.
