East Central Community College’s tennis teams were defeated by Itawamba squads Monday in non-division competition held at Gaddis Park in Forest.
The Lady Warriors fell 5-4 in their matchup and dropped to 3-4 on the 2010 campaign, while the Warriors were blanked 9-0 and fell to 2-5 overall.
Elise Gibbs, a product of Newton County High School, and Abby McMillan of Newton County Academy were the only Lady Warrior winners in singles competition. Gibbs defeated Sudduth, 6-2, 6-3; and McMillan clipped Thomas, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).
Rachel Ramirez of Forest fell to Randle, 6-0, 6-3; Hannah Peoples of Newton County Academy lost to Byrd, 6-1, 6-3; and Sami Elkins of Forest was defeated by Dismuke, 6-1, 6-1.
In women’s doubles, Gibbs and McMillan lost to Thomas/Sudduth, 8-0; and Ramirez and Peoples fell to Randle/Byrd, 8-1.
In men’s singles, Colton Amis, a Newton County High School product, fell to Wilkinson, 6-0, 6-1; Will Marston of Union lost to Prudencia, 6-3, 6-0; Zac White of Union was shut out by Raines, 6-0, 6-0; Jason Hancock lost to Thomas, 6-0, 6-2; Dee Walker of Newton County lost to Fulgham, 6-0, 6-1; and Matt Griffin of Union was clipped by Folls, 6-3, 6-3.
In men’s doubles, Amis and Walker fell to Wilkinson/Prudencia, 8-4; Marston and Hancock lost to Fulgham/Thomas, 8-2; and Griffin and White were defeated by Raines/Walker, 8-0.
