Cathryn May of Chunky is a recent addition to the math faculty at East Central Community College in Decatur, announced ECCC President Dr. Phil A. Sutphin.
May, who officially begins her new duties on Aug. 12, joins the ECCC staff after serving as a math instructor at Newton County High School since 2000. During her 11-year tenure at Newton County, May received STAR Teacher recognition and served as department chair. She also served as Beta Club and class sponsor.
She is also a former math instructor at Newton County Middle School, Choctaw Central and Lamar high schools, and Meridian Community College. In addition, she was previously employed as an industrial engineer at Peavey Electronics in Meridian.
May is a 1987 graduate of Newton High School, where she was selected valedictorian and STAR Student. She received a bachelor’s degree in math in 1991 and a master’s degree in 1992, both from the University of Mississippi.
She and her husband Michael May are owners/operators of Lazy Acres Plantation in Chunky. They have a daughter, Mikayla May.
