Candidates for Freshman Admissions to East Central Community College will be one of the following three (3) types:

1.    Traditional Freshman
2.    Dual Enrolled student
3     Dual Credit student

The three types of freshman student above may or may not be Provisionally Accepted during the senior year.  Please see detailed descriptions below.

Traditional Freshman Candidacy

A Traditional Freshman Candidate is a high school graduate or GED completer with no previous college enrollment.

Admissions Requirements
  • Application for Admission
  • Offical ACT or COMPASS Placement score(s)
  • Final Official High School transcript
  • NOTE:   While not required, ECCC encourages all freshman candidates to submit Official Partial (in-progress) high school transcripts as early as possible during the senior year.   These transcripts allow for Provisional Acceptance which affords significant advantages on orientation and registration, housing reservations, and financial aid processing.

Provisional Acceptance

A Provisionally Accepted freshman candidate has submitted Official Partial (in progress) high school transcripts to ECCC along with the application for admission and offical ACT or COMPASS placement scores.  Upon provisional acceptance, the student is ready to register at the first eligible orientation.  Provisional Acceptance is conditional on completion of high school and submission of the Official Final high school transcripts before beginning classes at ECCC.

Provisional Acceptance carries significant advantages in early processing in several college offices such as Housing, Scholarships,  and Financial Aid.

Dual Enrollment

A Dual Enrolled student is enrolled in college credit courses while still in high school.

Eligibility
  • Completion of a minimum of fourteen (14) core high school units.  Students that do not have the 14 units but have an ACT composite score of 30 or above may be considered.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale for high school  schoolwork completed
  • Have the unconditional recommendation of their high school principal or counselor

Admissions Requirements:

  • Application for Admission (Please indicate Dual Enrollment as your entrance classification)
  • Official ACT scores(s)
  • Official Partial (in progress) High School Transcripts
  • Letter of Recommendation from high school principal or counselor
  • Note:  Dual Enrolled students that intend to enroll at East Central Community College for the subsequent Fall term following his/her high school graduation should complete a second application for admissions. Students who are completing the application for admissions in order to return to EC for the Summer and/or Fall terms following their high school graduation should choose First Time Freshman as their entrance classification.

Dual Credit

A Dual Credit student is enrolled in college courses that yield college credit and may also be transcripted for high school credit by the student's high school.  Typically these courses are taught on high school campuses throughout EC's district, by local qualified faculty.

Being a special case of Dual Enrollment, eligibility and admissions requirements for Dual Credit are the same as those for Dual Enrollment (above).  The local high school counselor will handle  submission of admissions documents for these students, generally at one time once course enrollments are determined.

Note:

Dual Credit students that intend to enroll at East Central Community College for the subsequent Summer and/or Fall term following his/her high school graduation should complete a second application for admissions. Students who are completing the application for admissions in order to return to EC for the Summer and/or Fall terms following their high school graduation should choose First Time Freshman as their entrance classification.

For more information on availability, admissions, and enrollment in a Dual Credit course, please contact Ms. Laura Ryals at lryals@eccc.edu .

Note:    A "perk" of Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit is early ECCC orientation during the spring term.

If the applicant prefers not to apply online, a manual application may be mailed to:  East Central Community College, Office of Admissions, P.O. Box 129,  Decatur, MS  39327
