The present library building was occupied during the 1976-77 academic year.  The library was named in honor of retired head librarian, Ms. Mamie Ethel Burton, during a dedication ceremony Fall of 1976.  Burton Library  is located near the center of the campus  and provides adequate shelving space to house approximately 50,000 volumes, as well as study rooms, a leisure reading area and special collection holdings .  The library has a seating capacity of 250, mostly individual study carrels.  Provisions are made for housing non-book materials and for meeting technological changes and needs.

Automated services for Burton Library are provided through the SIRSI Automated System. The Online catalog and other electronic resources are available by accessing the library web page via www.eccc.edu.

The purpose of Burton Library of East Central Community College is to serve as an academic Learning Resource Center for the students and faculty of the College. The Library staff strives to offer resources and services, when and where they are needed, to enhance the development of the whole student and to offer opportunities for students to become life-long learners.
