The event was two tournaments in one, with the MACJC competition and an invitational competition that also included teams from outside the MACJC.
Hammons, a product of Raleigh High School, finished in third place in the MACJC event, after shooting a two-under par 142 (73, 69) over the 36 holes of the tournament. He finished in fifth in the invitational. He was named to the All-Tournament Team in both events.
East Central finished in fifth place in the invitational. As a team, ECCC shot a 36-over par 612. The Warriors improved 16 strokes from the first to the second round.
Gulf Coast won both tournaments.
East Central entered the tournament ranked No. 5 in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association Men’s Golf Division II poll and No. 7 in the Golfstat Relative Rankings compiled by golfstat.com.
The Warriors finished the fall portion of the 2015-16 MACJC season with one second place, two third place, and one fourth finish.
Other East Central golfers participating and their scores included sophomore Andrew Joiner out of Spanish Fort High School in Daphne, Ala., 155 (81,74) tied for 22nd place; sophomore Tristan Hernandez of Leake Academy, 156 (78, 78), tied for 25th; freshman Seth McCormick out of Newton County Academy, 165 (82, 83), tied for 46th; freshman Kade Mathner out of Enterprise High School (Ala.), 166 (86, 80), tied for 49th; sophomore Nathan Nance of Newton County High School, 172 (95, 77), tied for 60th; and sophomore Blake Miller out of Ocean Springs High School, 179 (95, 84), 71st.
The Warrior golf team will not be in action again until March 7-8, 2016, at MACJC Conference Event No. 5 at Back Acres Country Club in Senatobia. The event is hosted by Northwest Mississippi Community College.
