The Lady Diamond Warriors fell 7-3 in the opener and were blanked 9-0 in the second contest of the MACJC South Division doubleheader.
Following the setback, EC’s record stood at 27-11 overall and 12-8 in league action. The Lady Bulldogs are also 12-8 in the division and 25-14 overall. The two squads are tied for third in the division standings. Jones County leads the division at 18-2 (32-2 overall) and Pearl River is second at 15-5 (21-11 overall).
In the first game, Morgan Porter and Karoline Holsonback led the offense with two hits each. Porter belted two singles and knocked in a run. Holsonback doubled and singled and was credited with two RBIs.
Other hitters were Mallory Turner of West Lauderdale, Lindsey Beard of Clarkdale and Haley Stephens of Union, singles each.
Runs were scored by Beard, Stephens and Porter.
Kendra Wilson took the loss. She went six innings and allowed four earned runs on nine hits. She also fanned a batter and walked four. Wilson is a product of South Lamar (Ala.) High School.
In the second game, EC managed just four hits - singles by Beard, Stephens, Porter and Anna-Katherine Nowell of Leake Academy.
Makayla Kelly took the loss. She went 4 1/3 innings and allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits. Kelly is a product of Nederland (Texas) High School.
The Lady Diamond Warriors battle Southwest Mississippi Community College Wednesday, March 9. Game times are 3 and 5 p.m. on the Decatur campus. The division doubleheader was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 8 but was moved to Wednesday due to wet grounds.
EC’s softball program is led by head coach Kristin Chaney, assistant Courtney Nunn and volunteer assistant Kasie Buckley.
