The Lady Diamond Warriors claimed an 8-0 shutout in the opener and followed with a 7-2 decision in the nightcap to improve to 4-0 under second-year head coach Kristin Chaney.
Ty Buckley belted two home runs, a single and collected four RBIs in leading EC’s offense in the opener. She also scored four runs. Buckley, a sophomore infielder, is a product of Neshoba Central High School.
Other hitters were Morgan Porter of Enterprise, double and single; and Kaylin Hopkins of Louisville, Lindsey Beard of Clarkdale, Hayley Stephens of Union, Skyler Simmons, a product of Bob Jones High School in Madison, Ala., Karoline Holsonback of South Lamar High School in Kennedy, Ala., and Makayla Kelly, of Nederland (Texas) High School, singles each.
Beard, Stephens and Kelly were also credited with an RBI each.
Kendra Wilson went the distance on the mound to earn the victory. She allowed four hits, fanned three batters and walked four in the six-inning matchup.
In the second contest, Buckley blasted a two-run homer in helping lead the offense.
Other sluggers were Porter, triple and single; Kelly, double and single; Stephens, two singles; and Turner, Beard and Simmons, singles each. Turner and Holsonback were also credited with an RBI each.
Kelly went the distance on the mound to claim the victory. She allowed seven hits and fanned five in the seven-inning battle.
Next up for the Lady Diamond Warriors is a doubleheader with Marion Military, scheduled Thursday, Feb. 13. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m. on the Marion, Ala., campus. The nondivision matchups were originally scheduled for Feb. 11 but were moved to Thursday due to the weather.
East Central hosts Mississippi Delta Community College Friday, Feb. 14. Doubleheader action begins at 2 p.m. on the Decatur campus.
