The Lady Warriors and Warriors both cruised to 7-2 victories in the non-division contests.
In women’s singles, EC winners were Hannah Peoples of Leake Academy, who beat Allison Wiltshire, 6-0, 6-1; Alana Turner of Florence, who blanked Nikki Baird, 6-0, 6-0; Amber Pierce of Leake Academy, who defeated Emily Wiltshire, 6-3, 6-0; and Nan Hartness of Winston Academy, a 6-3, 6-1 victor over Hannah Billingsley.
Lady Warriors Hannah Smith of Leake Academy and Lauren Peterson of Forest fell in their respective matches. Smith was edged 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 by Erica Whitten, and Peterson dropped a pair of 6-2 decisions to Haley Brown.
EC’s women won all three doubles matches, as Turner and Pierce blanked Billingsley/Whitten, 8-0; Peoples and Hartness clipped Brown/Baird, 8-4; and Katlyn Patrick and Kristine Jenkins, both of Forest, nipped the Lindsey Clark/Allie Downs team by an 8-6 margin.
Winning their respective matchups in men’s singles were Warriors Daniel Giles of Union, who beat Wesley Brandon, 6-3. 6-0; Javon Yarbrough of Louisville, who defeated Ande Mills, 6-1, 6-0; Ethan Rigdon of Union, who rallied to down Wesley Tye, 3-6, 7-5 (10-6); and Tanner Moore of Winston Academy, who clipped Noah Wright, 6-4, 6-3.
In other results, Juan Miranda of Morton fell to Micah Page, 6-2, 6-1; and Brandon St. Clair of Newton County High School was edged 3-6, 7-5, (10-7).
The Warriors were also victorious in all doubles competition. Miranda and Giles defeated Page/Brandon, 8-6; Yarbrough and Moore beat Mills/Price, 8-5; and Rigdon and Robert Strong of Forest edged Tye/Wright, 8-5.
EC battles Holmes Community College Wednesday, March 5. Competition begins at 2 p.m. on the Decatur campus.
