The Lady Warriors and Warriors were each blanked 9-0 by visiting MCC Tuesday, March 25. EC’s women were clipped 6-3 by Itawamba’s Lady Indians and the Warriors were blanked 9-0 by ICC’s men in matches played Wednesday, March 26 at Gaddis Park in Forest.
Regarding competition with MCC, results were as follows: women’s singles – Hannah Peoples of Leake Academy lost to Mallory Davis, 6-1, 6-1; Alana Turner of Florence lost to Jennifer Smith, 6-3, 6-4; Amber Pierce lost to Madison Gillette, 6-4, 6-3; Nan Hartness of Winston Academy lost to Caroline Terry, 6-3,6-0; Hannah Smith of Leake Academy lost to Molly Davis, 6-1, 7-5; and Kristine Jenkins of Forest lost to Taylor White, 6-2, 6-0; women’s doubles – Turner and Pierce lost to Mallory Davis/Smith, 8-4; Peoples and Hartness lost to Molly Davis/Gillette, 8-5; and Katlyn Patrick/Jenkins lost to White/Terry, 8-1; men’s singles – Juan Miranda of Morton lost to Kevin Millet, 6-2, 6-4; Daniel Giles of Union lost to Will Rogers, 6-2, 6-2; Javon Yarbrough of Louisville lost to Chris Mallet, 6-4, 6-4; Brandon St. Clair of Newton County lost to TJ Carter, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4; Ethan Rigdon of Union lost to Reed Wade, 6-2, 6-2; and Tanner Moore of Winston Academy lost to Christian Jackson, 6-1. 6-1; and men’s doubles – Miranda and Giles lost to Miller/Mallet, 8-2; Yarbrough and Moore lost to Wade/Cody Gollenbeck, 8-0; and Rigdon and St. Clair lost to Carter/Wade, 8-4.
In women’s competition with Itawamba, Pierce won her singles match by defeating Amber Federick, 5-2. In other results, Peoples lost to Kristen Eley, 6-1, 6-0; Turner lost to Taylor Patterson, 6-4, 6-4; Hartness lost to Anna Clair Griffin, 6-2, 4-6, 12-10; Smith lost to Aleshia Hudson, 6-2, 6-2; and Patrick lost to Angela Hudson, 6-2, 6-1. The Lady Warriors won two of three matches in doubles, as Peoples and Hartness beat Aleisha Hudson/Griffin, 9-8 (7-0); and Jenkins and Lauren Peterson of Forest beat Frederick/Angela Hudson, 8-6. Turner and Pierce fell 8-2 in their doubles match with Eley/Patterson.
Results from men’s competition with Itawamba are as follows: singles – Miranda fell to Nathan Pinkey, 6-1, 6-4; Giles fell to Austin McElwain, 6-0, 6-0; Yarbrough fell to David McElwain, 6-1, 6-2; St. Clair fell to Cody Coins, 6-1, 6-3; Rigdon fell to Joseph Summers, 6-0, 6-3; and Moore fell to Jordan Trice, 6-0, 6-0; and doubles – Miranda and Giles fell to Pinkey/McElwain, 8-3; Yarbrough and Moore fell to McElwain/Coins, 9-7; and Rigdon and St. Clair fell to Drew and Caleb Ballard, 8-1.
EC tennis squads travel to Meridian Community College Friday, March 28 for competition beginning at 1 p.m. on the MCC campus. The Lady Warriors and Warriors will be guests of Itawamba Community College Monday, March 31. Competition begins at 2 p.m. on the Fulton campus.
