East Central Community College staff member Lucille Wood (left) presents the latest work by her classmate and noted author Warren Trest of Montgomery, Ala., to librarians Gloria Johnson (center) and Gail Wood during a presentation in the College’s Memorabilia Room located in Burton Library on the Decatur campus. The recently published book, Nobody But the People, is a biography of former Alabama Governor John Patterson and his efforts in leading the state through the turbulent early years of the Civil Rights movement. Trest, a Louisville native and 1952 ECCC graduate, has authored and coauthored more than 50 military histories and studies. In 2000, his book Air Commando One: Heinie Aderolt and America’s Secret Air Wars was nominated for the Bancroft Prize for distinguished works in American history. Another work titled Air Force Roles and Missions: A History, was on the U.S. Air Force chief of staff’s reading list for 2007. Other recent books include Wings of Denial: The Alabama Air Guard’s Role in the Bay of Pigs, coauthored with Don Dodd, professor emeritus at Auburn University-Montgomery, and Missing in Paradise, both from New South Books. Trest is a former historian with United States Air Force Historical Research Agency at Maxwell AFB, Alabama.
