ECCC’s NJCAA Academic All-Americans East Central Community College athletes who excelled in the classroom during 2007-08 have been recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Three student athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average and were named Distinguished Academic All-Americans, which includes those achieving a 3.80 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale for 45 semester hours or 60 quarter hours. Honorees and their respective sports area include (seated from left) Whitnee White (softball) of Philadelphia, Dru Anderson (tennis) of Decatur and Joseph Cieglo (tennis) of Forest. Named NJCAA Academic All-Americans- students with at least a 3.60 GPA - include (seated at right) Jana Johnson (soccer) of Chunky, and (standing from left) Julie Gaines (tennis) of Philadelphia, Robert Westbrook (baseball) of Little Rock, and Fredrick Lyons (football) and Chelsey Vincent (soccer), both of Decatur. Not pictured is Jeffery Grimshel (soccer) of Vicksburg. Student-athletes who receive NJCAA Academic All-American honors must have completed three semesters of college work and participated in at least one athletic season on the varsity level.
