Donation Honors Burkes’ Memory

A Geneva Torchiere Lamp was recently donated to the Memorabilia Room at East Central Community College in memory of Roger Burkes, a former ECCC staff member who passed away in January 2008. Burkes was the husband of Ann Burkes (third from left) of Decatur, longtime librarian at the College who retired in May 2001. Making the presentation were (from left) Gail Wood, assistant librarian; Lucille Wood, faculty member; and Gloria Johnson (right), head librarian, who said the lamp was chosen “because of Roger’s love of reading.” Roger Burkes, a 1962 ECCC graduate, served on the East Central staff from 1992-96. The Memorabilia Room is located in Burton Library on the Decatur campus.
