ECCC Tuition Remains At $700; Dorm Students To Receive Cable TV, Wireless Internet Services

Most fees will remain the same in 2008-09 at East Central Community College in Decatur, announced ECCC President Dr. Phil A. Sutphin.

The student fees schedule – approved at Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting – includes $700 for tuition per semester, the same rate since 2003. Tuition for part-time students will continue to be $75 per semester hour.

“Our mission has always been to serve students and by holding down the cost of a college education we feel we are accomplishing our goal,” said Dr. Sutphin, who has led the two-year institution since 2000.

Dr. Sutphin said fees for room and board will increase, however, due to increased food costs and other anticipated expenses.

A dormitory room will now cost $575 per semester, an increase of $100.

However, as an added benefit for residence hall students, Cable TV and wireless Internet services will be provided in each dorm room at no additional cost.

“We’ve entered into an agreement with a local company to provide these services, which students previously had to purchase through independent contracts,” Dr. Sutphin stated. “The response from students has been overwhelmingly favorable for this service and we are more than pleased to provide it.”

Board fees will increase by either $30 or $35 depending on the type meal plan a student purchases. A five-day plan will be $740 and the seven-day meal ticket cost $890.

All other fees will remain the same.

For 2008-09, the total cost to attend ECCC for a full-time dormitory student with a five-day meal plan is $2,075 per semester. The fee for a full-time dormitory student with a seven-day meal plan is $2,225 per semester. Day students will pay $760 per semester.

Total cost for out-of-state students is $3,125 for those who purchase a five-day meal plan, and $3,275 for the seven-day meal plan.
