The Warriors recently took a trip to Canton to spend the day going to war with paintballs. Great fun was had by all and only a few bruises were earned for the day.
The Warriors recently added several new players to the squad for the 2014 season.
Signing with the Warriors was Pearl High School standout Connor Brennan. Conner is a 6'1" midfielder. He helped lead his team to the 2014 Class 5A state championship.
Also joining the Warriors is Jamar Simms of Pascagoula High. He is a 5' 9" defender that led his team to the Class 5A state semifinals.
Amory standout John Mark Howell will be joining the Warriors for the fall as well. He is a 6'0" 225lb keeper.
Condolences go out to the Dr. Eddie Smith family on his death today. Dr. Smith was the sixth president of East Central Community College. He was responsible bringing JUCO soccer to the campus of East Central in 1999. He was always an advocate of the student athlete and looked for EC athletes to excel on the field as well as the classroom.
He will be greatly missed by the East Central family as well as the MACJC.
Congratulations go out to 2014 signee Durham Norman and his Florence High teammates as they advanced to the MSHSAA state championship match in Class 4A.
The Warriors continue to add to the squad for the fall as they add local standouts Kellen Clark and Cesar Diaz to the roster. Both are products of Newton County High in Decatur. Clark, a defender and Diaz, a forward led their high school team to the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs before falling to state finalist St. Stanislaus.
Recent additions to the 2014 squad include Clinton High standouts Jackson Oliver and Tyler Aaron. Oliver is a forward/midfielder and Aaron is a forward. Their team recently won the district championship and is advancing to the Mississippi State Playoffs.
Also joining the squad is Jacob Johnson from Destrehan High in Destrehan, Louisisana. Johnson is a forward and his team recently won the district championship and is advancing to the Louisiana State Playoffs.
Recently welcomed as new members of the East Central Community College men’s soccer team for 2014-15 are (seated from left) midfielders Fredy Gutierrez of Pontotoc, Omar Gutierrez of Mooreville and Abimael Rivera of Saltillo; and (standing from left) defender Durham Norman of Florence and midfielder Carlos Gutierrez of Mooreville.
Team GPA's for the fall semester have been released.
The Warriors posted a team GPA of 3.037 for the fall semester and have a cumulative GPA of 3.193. Last year when they finished second in the nation they had a cumulative GPA of 3.13 while the highest in the nation was 3.15. So with a strong spring performance the Warriors have a chance to finish in the top 10 in the nation for the 7th consecutive year.
The Fall 13 Semester was highly successful for these members of the Warrior Soccer team. Attaining perfect 4.0 GPAs for the fall semester are from left: Zack Killion of Crestwood, KY; Taylor Potter of Bentonia, MS, Will Thompson of Decatur, MS; Jesus Toledano-Onofre of Lake, MS; and Dalton Smith of Florence, MS.
Killion, Potter, and Thompson are all sophomores while Onofre and Smith are freshmen. Congratulations to each of them.
12 other Warriors attained 3.0 or higher as well. Many of these were 3.5 and above. 17 out of 27 players and managers above 3.0 is an accomplishment to be proud of EC!
If 50 seconds was not fast enough for the Warriors to score today they improved on that by scoring only 42 seconds into the match. Again it would be Will Thompson with the quick scoring following up on a blocked shot by Ty Miller. Northwest would tie the match in the 32nd minute. The Warrior would regain the lead in the 45th minute as Kennon Craft drove along the goal line and laced a shot in for a score. Tragedy would erupt just seconds later as both benches cleared as a Northwest player attacked one of the Warriors. After getting everyone back together both teams lost a player to a red card and would play with 10 men for the remainder of the match. The Rangers took advantage of this as the Warriors were trying to attack and spread out. They scored three second half goals on counter attacks to win the match 4-2 and earn the 2nd spot in the north division.
Next up for the Warriors is Sophomore Day on Friday, October 25 as the Pearl River Wildcats come to Decatur for a non-division matchup which will end the regular season for both teams. Game time is 4:00.
