Hunter Corhern, Director of Bands
Hunter Corhern is in his first year as Director of Bands at East Central Community College. He teaches all woodwind and brass applied lessons and is in charge of the ECCC WALL O' SOUND Marching Band and Concert Band. Prior to teaching at ECCC, Corhern served as the band director at Starkville Academy in Starkville, Mississippi. Corhern is also a 2003 alumnus of Starkville Academy. The Volunteer Band received superior ratings in his two years as director. They also received the 2010 Esprit de Corps award at the Music in the Parks Festival in Richmond, Virginia.
Corhern holds a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Mississippi State University. He performed in the MSU Wind Ensemble for four years, serving as principal tuba for two years. He also served as principal tuba for the Starkville/ MSU Symphony Orchestra for five years under the direction of Dr. Michael Brown. He marched in the Famous Maroon Band for four years and performed in the student brass quintet "Five Guys with Horns" and the tuba-euphonium ensemble "Friends in Low Places." Corhern studied tuba under Dr. Richard Human Jr. and music education from Ms. Elva Kaye Lance, Dr. Cliff Taylor, and Dr. Craig Aarhus.
Corhern also holds a master's degree in Wind Band Conducting from Missouri State University. He served as principal tuba for the Missouri State Wind Ensemble and as a student conductor for the Missouri State Wind Symphony and Concert Band. Corhern studied conducting under Dr. Belva Prather and Dr. Robert Quebbeman. He also served as the graduate assistant in Music Theory under Dr. Michael F. Murray, teaching all four courses of study.
His professional affiliations include Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Kappa Lambda, the Mississippi Bandmasters Association, and the Mississippi Junior and Community College Band Director Association. He is an active volunteer with the Mississippi Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar, where he has served as Director of Facilitators since 2009.

Ed Girling, Assistant Director of Bands
Ed Girling is currently in his 3rd year as assistant director of bands at East Central Community College. In addition to his work with the WALL O' SOUND drum line and front ensemble, Girling also serves as the applied percussion instructor and director of the jazz band and percussion ensemble.
Girling previously served as director at Forest High School (2005-2010), Scott Central (1995-2004), where he received STAR Teacher honors in 1998; Stringer (1994-95), Neshoba Central (1991-94), Manchester Academy (1988-1991), Cleveland (1987-88), North Sunflower Academy in Drew (1985-87), and Yazoo City (1982-86).
Girling has served as a clinic and contest judge, as a band clinician, and as a guest conductor. In addition, he has experience in organizing and administering clinics and contests. He is also a music arranger and composer and has served as a percussionist for various music groups. Currently he is a member of the Mississippi Symphonic Winds.
Mr. Girling served two years as the director for the Scott County Honor Band, which received superior ratings in concert and sight reading. He has also served as a director of several musicals in addition to performing in numerous theatrical productions.
He is a former president of the East Central Mississippi Band Directors’ Association and the Mississippi Private School Association. Girling is currently the secretary for the Mississippi Junior and Community College Band Director Association. He is a longtime member of the Mississippi Bandmasters Association and of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
A graduate of Pass Christian High School, Girling holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Music Education and a bachelor degree in Percussion Performance from Delta State University in Cleveland.
