What is Verification?

If a student has been chosen for verification on their Student Aid Report, East Central Community College must use documentation to confirm that the information on that student’s FAFSA is correct. The federal government requires colleges to verify, or confirm, the data reported by students and their parent(s) on the FAFSA. In this process, the Financial Aid Office will request documentation from the student (and parent, if applicable) and then compare that documentation to the FAFSA, and make any changes as necessary. This ensures that eligible students receive all the federal financial aid to which they are entitled and prevents ineligible students from receiving financial aid for which they do not qualify.

If I am selected for verification, what do I need to do?

If your FAFSA was selected for verification, participation in the verification process is mandatory to receive federal financial aid. Please provide the Financial Aid Office with the requested documentation listed on myEC. You will find links to the different documents below. You may use the myEC document portal to upload completed forms, as well as other requested documentation.
