The East Central Community College Lady Warrior soccer team opened the regular season in style with a 1-0 shutout victory over host Southwest Tennessee Community College on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

The match was played at St. George’s Independent School in Germantown, Tenn.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Warriors got the game winner in the second half off the foot of freshman forward Macey Spencer out of Florence High School. She was assisted by freshman forward Bethany Hand from Dublin, Ireland.

East Central Community College will host a traveling exhibition titled “Mississippi’s Greatest Treasure: The Old Capitol” Sept. 5-28 in Burton Library on the Decatur campus. The exhibit is being hosted in conjunction with the college’s celebration of Constitution Day, which is Monday, Sept. 17.

The exhibit is free to view and will be open to the public during library hours, which are 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays and 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Sundays.

The East Central Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams lost a pair of preseason exhibition matches by identical scores at Meridian Community College Friday, Aug. 17.

The Lady Warriors fell to the Meridian Lady Eagles 2-1 in the opening match of the night. East Central fell behind 2-0 in the first half and could not recover.

The lone Lady Warrior goal came on a penalty kick from sophomore midfielder Carrington Payne out of Richland High School.

Students who transferred from East Central Community College in Decatur to public four-year institutions earned the highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of all community and junior college transfers in the state of Mississippi in 2017.

Registration is underway for Fall 2018 Intensive Term II on-campus and online courses at East Central Community College in Decatur.

The last day to register for on-campus courses in the Fall 2018 Intensive Term II is Thursday, Oct. 4. Classes begin on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

East Central Community College’s “Meet the Warriors” will have a new location and format when the family friendly pep rally is held on Monday, Aug. 27.

The annual pep rally and student-athlete introduction event will begin at 7 p.m. this year using the front lawn of campus and the Cross Hall parking lot near Huff Auditorium. The public is invited to attend.

If the East Central Community College Warriors are to improve on last season’s record, they will have to do so against the toughest football schedule in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
