The East Central Community College Warriors will host the Itawamba Community College Indians in a National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 baseball best-of-three playoff series May 10-11 at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex on the campus in Decatur.

Game one will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 10. Game two is slated for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11. Game three, if necessary, will begin immediately following game two on Friday.

Longtime women’s collegiate basketball coach and current academic administrator Paul Nixon of Senatobia will be the next Director of Athletics at East Central Community College in Decatur.

Nixon will replace Chris Harris, the college’s Dean of Personnel Services/Athletics who retires next month after 14 years at ECCC.

Chris Clark, head golf coach at East Central Community College in Decatur since 2011, has been named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Golf Co-Coach of the Year for 2017-18.

The East Central Community College Warriors could not get the bats going against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Wednesday, May 2, as the Bulldogs swept an MACJC doubleheader at Ken “Curly” Farris Field in Perkinston.

East Central managed just two hits in a 9-1 eight-inning loss to Gulf Coast in the opener and five hits in the 5-2 nightcap loss.

With the losses, East Central is now 29-15 overall on the season and 16-10 in MACJC league play. The Gulf Coast Bulldogs improved to 31-13 overall and 15-11 in the league.

East Central Community College will host its annual Kids’ College program June 11-15 and June 18-22 on the Decatur campus.

The annual event, which features numerous courses and combines fun and learning for ages 5-12, costs $50 per class and includes a Kids’ College T-shirt for each participant.

Students can register online at www.eccc.edu/continuing-education. The deadline to register is May 25, 2018.

Numerous East Central Community College career and technical students took top honors in the Mississippi SkillsUSA competition held recently in Jackson.  Those receiving first place honors will represent Mississippi and compete at the National Skills and Leadership Conference in Louisville, Ky., in June.

East Central Community College’s Theta Chi chapter of Phi Beta Lambda is the largest community college chapter in the nation, and third largest among all two-year and four-year institutions, the organization recently learned.

According to Christy Ferguson, ECCC business and office technology instructor and PBL advisor, there are more than 500 PBL chapters on college campuses across the United States. East Central’s chapter has 178 members, which is the largest membership in the chapter’s history.
