ECCC Warrior Soccer Shuts Out Meridian in Season Opener

The East Central Community College men’s soccer team opened its 2017 season in a strong way with a 5-0 shutout of Meridian Community College in a match played in Meridian Friday, Aug. 25.

It was the third straight match the Warriors have held an opponent scoreless after two shutout wins in the exhibition pre-season.

Dylan Shoemaker out of Forest High School got the win in goal.

A couple of former teammates at Northwest Rankin High School did the bulk of the scoring for East Central. Sophomore forward Tanner Lindsey and sophomore midfielder Jacob Thomas each scored twice.

Sophomore wing Joseph Stewart, a product of Callaway High School, had the other East Central goal.

The Warriors will now face Southwest Mississippi Community College at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the Soccer Complex in Decatur.

East Central will open Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges North Division play Friday, Sept. 1, against Holmes at 4 p.m. in Ridgeland.
