After a scoreless first half, the East Central Community College men’s soccer team posted four second half goals to pick up an MACJC North Division win against Northwest Mississippi Community College Friday, Sept. 8, in Decatur.

The Warriors improved to 3-0-1 in the MACJC North Division and 3-1-1 overall. Northwest fell to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Sophomore forward Tanner Lindsey out of Northwest Rankin got East Central on the scoreboard in the 47th minute with an assist by Jacob Thomas, who played with Lindsey at Northwest Rankin.

Freshman midfielder Francisco Romero out of Ripley followed with two straight goals, including one on a free kick. The sophomore midfielder Thomas added the final goal of the match for the 4-0 win.

In the women’s action earlier in the afternoon, the Northwest women scored two goals in the final nine minutes of action to defeat the East Central women 2-0.

Northwest’s Taylor Williams broke the 0-0 tie in the 81st minute and Landyn Hoover added a second goal in the 87th minute.

The Lady Warriors had 20 shots in the game to 10 for Northwest.

With the loss, the ECCC women fall to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in North Division play. Northwest is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the division.

The East Central teams will travel to Raymond to face Hinds Community College Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The ECCC men will also travel to Perkinston to take on Andrew College out of Cuthbert, Ga., on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m.
