A goal by the Southwest Bears with 2:18 to play was the difference as the East Central Community College men’s soccer team lost 2-1 in a match played in Summit Wednesday, Sept. 20.

It was the second contest between the two MACJC schools that compete in different divisions. Southwest won an earlier match in Decatur 3-0.

Freshman midfielder Francisco Romero out of Ripley gave East Central a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute off an assist from sophomore forward Tanner Lindsey, who prepped at Northwest Rankin. But two late goals by Southwest gave the Bears the win.

East Central’s overall record fell to 3-4-1. Southwest improved to 6-2-1.

ECCC is on the road for its next two matches as well, in Ellisville Friday, Sept. 22, to face Jones County at 6 p.m. and then in Poplarville Monday, Sept. 25, vs. Pearl River at 7 p.m. Both are non-division matches.
