The East Central Community College Warriors traveled to Bay Minette, Ala., Nov. 16, and came home with a big 87-71 basketball win over the Coastal Alabama-South Sun Chiefs in a game played at Jack Robertson Arena on the Coastal campus.

Freshman guard Roti Ware, who prepped at Morton High School, had a career-high 20 points to lead East Central, going 7 of 11 from the floor and 2 of 4 from beyond the three-point line. Sophomore guard Thurston McCarty out of Quitman also had a big night for the Warriors, scoring 19 points, pulling down a team-high nine rebounds, and dishing our four assists.

Sophomore forward Cameron Diggs (Mobile, Ala., Blount) had 14 points, sophomore guard Jaquan Dotson from Neshoba Central had 11 points, and sophomore forward Dalton Hanna from Jumpertown added 10 points and six rebounds.

As a team, East Central shot 50 percent from the floor for the game to equal the season’s best, and shot 86 percent from the charity stripe, a season high.

East Central improved to 2-3 on the season, while the Coastal Alabama Sun Chiefs fell to 1-4.

The East Central men’s and women’s basketball teams will host the EC Classic Nov. 20-21 in Brackeen-Wood Gym. The Lady Warriors will play Lawson State Community College (Birmingham, Ala.) on Nov. 20 and Southern University-Shreveport on Nov. 21, both games at 5 p.m. The Warriors will play Faith Prep Academy (West Memphis, Ark.) on Nov. 20 and Mississippi Delta Community College on Nov. 21, both at 7 p.m.

After a 12-day break, the teams will host Southwest Mississippi Community College in the first Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges South Division action of the season. Those games will be Monday, Dec. 4, at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Brackeen-Wood Gym in Decatur.
