East Central Community College offers computer based GED® testing at the Pearson VUE testing Centers in Decatur and Choctaw.  Testing is available Monday through Friday. Potential examinees register for the GED® Test at www.ged.com.

GED® Test Frequently Asked Questions

What is the GED® Test?
The GED® Test is a nationally recognized high school equivalency diploma that is accepted by most colleges, training programs, and the military.  The GED® test is comprised of four (4) subject areas:  Mathematical Reasoning; Reasoning through Language Arts; Science; and Social Studies.

Who can take the GED® Test?
Candidates 18 years of age and older
Potential examinees must be 18 years or older and have not graduated from high school to be eligible to take the GED® Test without restrictions. Applicants must create a MyGED™ profile and schedule a GED® testing session at www.ged.com and pay their testing fee with a credit/debit card.  The cost of the test is $30.00 per part or $120.00 for the entire test.
 
Candidates under 18 years of age
Seventeen year old candidates are eligible to take the GED® test, but must present a drop slip from the last school attended and a notarized application (with parent/guardian’s signature).  Seventeen year old candidates will not be able to schedule a testing dates until these documents are presented to the GED® examiner.  These students must also create a MyGED™ profile and register and pay at www.ged.com.  Seventeen year old students are encouraged to enroll in free ABE/GED® prep classes available at East Central Community College.

GED® Options Students
Sixteen and seventeen year old high school students enrolled in GED® Options programs at their high school must bring a notarized application with a parent/guardian's signature, as well as, their principal or school official's signature.  GED® Options students will not be able to schedule a testing dates until these documents are presented to the GED® examiner. 

How do I register for the GED® Test?

  • Go to www.ged.com 
  • Follow the directions on screen to create a MY GED® profile
  • Once registered, you will have to answer a few questions about your education history.
  • Select the test or tests you wish to take.
  • Select the location and time you would like to take your test.
  • Pay your testing fee - The testing fee is $30.00 per section or $120.00 for the complete GED® test.  A credit or debit card is required to pay your testing fee.

Are accommodations available?
Accommodations are available for candidates with physical and/or learning disabilities.  These accommodations must be approved prior to testing. You can request accommodations when during the registration process at www.ged.com.  Ask your GED® Examiner for more information or click here.

Since the GED® test is on computer, can I take it from home?
No, the official GED® test is only available through official Pearson VUE Testing Centers.  You can register from home, but you must come to the testing center to take the actual test. ECCC has official Pearson VUE testing centers on the Decatur campus (open Monday - Friday and one Saturday per month) and on the ITTC campus in Choctaw (open Monday - Friday).  The GED Ready™ practice test is available on home computers.

Are there any preparation courses available for the GED® test?
