The East Central Community College baseball team dropped a doubleheader against Mississippi Delta Community College by scores of 4-3 and 3-0 Saturday, April 1, at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

In game one, the Diamond Warriors took the early lead going up 2-0 in the third inning scoring runs on a fielder’s choice and a single by Cooper Clement of Water Valley. Mississippi Delta quickly responded with four runs of their on in the top of the fourth of the nine-inning affair.

ECCC closed the deficit after scoring one in the sixth when Billy Cameron of Mendenhall High School tripled and later scored on a Mississippi Delta error.

Right-hander Sam Parker of Natchez Cathedral High School took the loss for ECCC, pitching two innings and allowing four runs on five hits. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Christian Bellew of Gulfport High School pitched the remainder of the ballgame and allowed no runs on five hits while striking out nine.

In game two, ECCC was unable to push any runs across the plate against Mississippi Delta pitching

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when Mississippi Delta scored a run. The Trojans added two more runs in the final inning of the seven-inning game.

Peyton Lott of Seminary High School took the loss for Warriors. He tossed four and two-thirds innings, giving up one run, four hits, striking out six, and walking one.

ECCC dropped to 20-8 overall and 6-4 in MACJC league play. Mississippi Delta improved to 20-6 on the season and 7-1 in MACJC play.

The East Central Diamond Warriors will travel to Poplarville Wednesday, April 5, to face Pearl River Community College for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. They will return home Saturday, April 8, to host East Mississippi Community College at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex at 2 p.m.
