Numerous East Central Community College career and technical students took top honors in the Mississippi SkillsUSA competition held recently in Jackson.  Those receiving first place honors will represent Mississippi and compete at the National Skills and Leadership Conference in Louisville, Ky., in June.

East Central Community College’s Theta Chi chapter of Phi Beta Lambda is the largest community college chapter in the nation, and third largest among all two-year and four-year institutions, the organization recently learned.

According to Christy Ferguson, ECCC business and office technology instructor and PBL advisor, there are more than 500 PBL chapters on college campuses across the United States. East Central’s chapter has 178 members, which is the largest membership in the chapter’s history.

The No. 11 East Central Community College Lady Warrior softball team will face No. 4 ranked Jones County Junior College in its opening game of the 2018 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Tournament in Fulton.

No. 3 Seed East Central and No. 2 Seed Jones County will play at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 4.

No. 3 ranked Itawamba Community College is the top seed and tournament host. The Lady Indians will play No. 5 Seed Pearl River Community College at 4 p.m. on the opening day.

The East Central Community College baseball program is hosting two Summer Team Camps in June for commuters and overnight campers.

Session one of ECCC’s Team Baseball Summer Camp is June 4-6, while session two is scheduled for June 6-8. Check-in for both sessions 1 p.m. on the first day and check-out is 8 a.m. on the final morning. Both camps will be at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex on the campus in Decatur.

The East Central Community College football program is hosting showcases for unsigned high school seniors and for high school juniors on Friday, May 18, at Bailey Stadium on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

The showcase for unsigned high school football seniors begins at 12:30 p.m. All current high school seniors who have not signed to play football in college next year are invited. The cost is $10 per participant.

The No. 17 ranked East Central Community College baseball team bounced back from a pair of midweek losses with a couple of run-rule wins over the Elaine P. Nunez Community College Pelicans Saturday, April 28, at Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

East Central won the opener 10-2 in seven innings and then won the nightcap 14-4 in five innings.

East Central is now 29-13 on the season. The visitors from Chalmette, La., are 3-26.
