MI-BEST

The Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (MIBEST) program is a state initiative designed to help adults, particularly those without a high school diploma or with limited basic skills, acquire the education and job training necessary to transition into better-paying, sustainable careers.

 

Here’s a breakdown of what it provides:

1. Integrated Education + Workforce Training
2. High School Equivalency Diplomas
3. Industry-Recognized Credentials & College Credit
4. Support Services (“Wraparound Service”)```
5. Accelerated Pathways
6. Access to Federal Financial Aid

 

Who is eligible/target population

· Adults (or near-adults) who lack a high school diploma or equivalency
· Individuals with low basic skills in reading, writing, and math who need remediation or foundational training.
· Low-wage workers or those without credentials who are disadvantaged in the job market.

 

MI-BEST allows qualified applicants to take courses they need to prepare for the high school equivalency exam (formerly GED®) while at the same time training for jobs in fields such as:
