The bats were hot for the No. 7 ranked Diamond Warriors on Friday, March 24, as the East Central Community College baseball scored 41 runs through two games to sweep the Holmes Community College Bulldogs in Goodman. The solid hitting performance landed ECCC a 30-1 and 11-2 wins.

With the sweep, East Central improved to 20-4 on the season and 6-0 in MACJC league play.

In game one, ECCC grabbed the lead early after scoring on a single by Brandon Clark of Neshoba Central in the first inning, but Holmes tied up the ballgame after scoring on a single in the bottom of the first.

ECCC then took the lead they would never surrender in the second inning on a double by Jacob Edwards of Newton County, a three-run home run by Billy Cameron of Mendenhall High School, and another three-run home run by Ty Alderman of Newton County Academy.

The game featured six home runs by the Warriors including a solo shot by Cole Prestegard of Huntsville (Ala.) High School, two-run homers off the bats of Edwards and Davis Lott of Lewisburg High School, and a grand slam by Wyatt Ball of Nanih Waiya High School.

ECCC collected 26 hits in the game one victory. Ball led the Diamond Warriors offensively with seven RBI on four hits. Alderman also had four hits with four RBI. Cameron and Prestegard had three hits each.

Dylan Marsh of Lake Cormorant earned the win for Diamond Warriors. He tossed five innings, surrendering one run, one hit, and striking out four.

In game two, the Diamond Warriors scored two in the first on a groundout by Prestegard and a single by Clark for the early lead.

East Central picked up three more runs in the second on an error and a sacrifice fly.

The Diamond Warriors biggest inning of the game two victory was the fourth, scoring four runs on a double by Nathan Roseberry of Purvis High School, a single by Cameron, a home run by Prestegard, and a single by Tyler Ladner of Pass Christian High School.

Tanner Elders out of Newton County earned the win for Warriors. He threw five innings, allowing two runs, five hits, striking out three, and giving up no walks.

The East Central Diamond Warriors return home to take on No. 1 nationally ranked Jones County Junior College for a doubleheader Tuesday, March 28, at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex. Game times are 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Later in the week, East Central will host Mississippi Delta Community College on Saturday, April 1 in Decatur at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
