New and transfer students planning to attend East Central Community College in fall 2017 can now take advantage of weekday “Walk-In” Orientation sessions on the Decatur campus.

Walk-In Orientation is available beginning June 12 Mondays through Thursdays from either 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The college will be closed on July 4 for the Independence Day holiday. Fall 2017 classes begin on Monday, Aug. 14.

Because of expected inclement weather, the Warrior Elite Football Camp scheduled for Monday, June 5, has been postponed until Wednesday, June 7.

Instructional counselors from East Central Community College in Decatur will be visiting four locations in the college’s five-county district this summer to assist students with fall 2017 course registration.

Also on hand will be ECCC student recruiters to provide information for prospective students, as well as the college’s Warrior Wellness coordinator with free, healthy snacks and drinks.

For the second straight year, East Central Community College head football coach Ken Karcher is the Mississippi Association of Coaches Community College Football Coach of the Year for the 2016 season.

Karcher will share the honor with Holmes Community College football coach Jeff Koonz.

The Wheeler Drug Store team won the Championship Flight of the 16th Annual East Central Community College Warrior Golf Classic May 11 for the second straight year at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club, located on the Pearl River Resort in Choctaw.

Sponsored by the ECCC Alumni Association, the four-person scramble netted nearly $10,000 for student scholarships, according to event coordinator David LeBlanc, director of alumni relations and the foundation at ECCC in Decatur.

Coming off its first Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges South Division title in program history, the East Central Community College football team will play five road games in 2017, including the first two games of the season.

The Warriors finished the 2016 season with a 5-5 overall record, including a South Division title and second straight trip to the state playoffs. It was the first time in 40 years that the Warriors competed in the state playoffs in consecutive seasons.

Six freshmen and one sophomore who helped the East Central Community College Lady Diamond Warrior Softball team to postseason play during the 2017 season were recognized recently for their efforts.

Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Oswalt out of Heritage Academy in Columbus was named National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region 23. Oswalt posted a 22-5 record in the circle with three saves and 108 strikeouts.
