East Central Community College head baseball coach Neal Holliman recently announced those members of the 2017 Diamond Warriors receiving team postseason recognition.

Sophomore infielder/outfielder Cole Prestegard out of Huntsville (Ala.) High School was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Sophomore pitcher Christian Bellew out of Gulfport High School, Most Valuable Pitcher.

Sophomore outfielder Johntrell Pickens out of Philadelphia High School, Best Teammate.

Several East Central Community College Diamond Warriors were selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region 23 Baseball Team and the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-State Baseball Team following the 2017 season.

East Central compiled an overall record of 33-17 and participated in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament May 17-21.

Sophomore Cole Prestegard of Huntsville (Ala.) High School was named to the 2017 NJCAA All-Region 23 Team and the MACJC All-State First Team.

East Central Community College’s Theta Chi chapter of Phi Beta Lambda is the largest community college chapter in the nation, and fourth largest among all two-year and four-year institutions, the organization recently learned.

According to Christy Ferguson, ECCC business and office technology instructor and PBL advisor, there are more than 500 PBL chapters on college campuses across the United States. East Central’s chapter has 141 members.

The season came to an end for the East Central Community College baseball team with consecutive losses in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament being held May 17-21 on the campus of Jones County Junior College in Ellisville.

Registering for fall 2017 classes is among the activities new and transfer students will participate in when East Central Community College holds an Orientation session Wednesday, June 7, on the Decatur campus.

East Central Community College in Decatur is offering a variety of courses this summer both online and on the Decatur campus, as well as its locations in Carthage and Philadelphia.

The college is offering courses during three terms: Summer Online Term, Summer I (June) Term, and Summer II (July) Term.

After sweeping Mississippi Delta Community College in a first round playoff series last week, the East Central Community College Diamond Warrior baseball team will compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament Wednesday-Sunday, May 17-21, at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville.

East Central enters the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 2 seed Northwest Mississippi Community College Wednesday, May 17, at 3 p.m. The two teams split a doubleheader during the regular season.

The East Central Community College Board of Trustees this week approved the college’s 2017-18 budget plan aimed at offsetting a $1.04 million reduction in state appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2017.

The budget plan, which includes expenditure reductions and revenue increases, was approved at the board’s May meeting held on the Decatur campus.

With a sweep over Mississippi Delta Community College May 10 and May 11 in a best-of-three playoff series, the East Central Community College baseball team advances to the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament May 17-20 on the campus of Jones County Junior College in Ellisville.

The Diamond Warriors picked up two run-rule victories over the Trojans in the series. ECCC won game one 10-2 and game two with a 16-7 win at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.
