For the second time in three days, East Central Community College swept a nationally ranked opponent in MACJC softball doubleheader action. The Lady Warriors took down the No. 16 ranked Northeast Lady Tigers 13-0 and 7-4 in 10 innings in action Wednesday, April 17, in Booneville.

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors started a week of six softball games in five days by sweeping the No. 10 team in the nation on the road.

East Central Community College had held its own recently against nationally ranked teams, but the visiting Itawamba Indians overpowered the Warriors in a couple of MACJC baseball games Monday, April 15, at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex in Decatur.

No. 4 ranked Itawamba scored all its runs in two innings to win the opener 12-4 by run-rule in seven innings. The Indians scored eight runs in the first inning and then runs in every inning after that to win the nightcap 26-7. Itawamba hit six home runs in the two games.

The East Central Community College men’s and women’s tennis teams completed their seasons in the 2019 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State/National Junior College Athletic Association Region 23 Tournament held April 10-12 in Tupelo.

The East Central men finished in sixth in the nine-team field, while the No. 25 ranked ECCC women finished in fourth place and one spot short of qualifying for the national tournament.

East Central Community College sophomore Joshua Warnsley of Decatur was recently awarded one of two STEM scholarships from Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Phi Theta Kappa, a $2,250 award.

ECCC Offering Numerous Courses During Summer Online, On-Campus Terms

East Central Community College in Decatur is offering a variety of courses this summer both online and on the Decatur campus. Classes are also offered at the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Career-Technical Center.

In addition, the year-round status of the Federal Pell Grant was recently reinstated in 2017, which means students may be eligible for Pell Grants for the summer terms using their current 2018-19 FAFSA.
