The East Central Community College Foundation recently awarded four Oliphant-Martin Faculty Excellence Fund Grants to assist instructors in meeting the college’s institutional commitments of Student Success and Teaching & Learning.

The grant program, which was unveiled during the fall 2017 Faculty and Staff Convocation on the Decatur campus, was developed to assist the academic divisions, career & technical programs, and healthcare curriculums on campus in dealing with state appropriation reductions.

The East Central Community College women’s soccer team battled for 90 minutes of regulation play and 20 minutes of two overtimes, but could not find the net in a 0-0 draw with the Pearl River Community College Lady Wildcats Monday, Sept. 25.

Dr. Shea Hailey and Dr. Mike McMullan, two noted cardiologists with strong ties to East Central Community College, will present the college’s first Warrior Wellness Symposium on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the Vickers Fine Arts Center auditorium on the Decatur campus.

The physicians will speak to the science faculty and students interested in pre-med and related careers from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. There will be a reception with heart healthy snacks in the Vickers lobby from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.

East Central Community College in Decatur has announced changes to its policy concerning Career & Technical Education Scholarships it hopes will boost enrollment in those programs while providing more skilled workers to the college’s service area and the state of Mississippi.

Beginning with the fall 2018 semester, students who receive a Career & Technical (CTE) Skills or Leadership Scholarship to attend ECCC must be enrolled in one of the college’s CTE programs to receive and maintain a CTE Scholarship.

The East Central Community College golf team improved 13 shots and three spots in the standings over the final day to finish tied for third place among community and junior college teams at MACJC Conference Event No. 1 held Sept. 23-24 at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Raymond.

It was the opening golf event of the 2017-18 season for Mississippi community colleges.

As a team, ECCC shot a 19-over par 595 over the two-day, 36-hole tournament. Mississippi Gulf Coast won the event with an 11-under par 565.

East Central Community College used goals six minutes apart but in different periods of the match to defeat Jones County Junior College 2-0 on the road in Ellisville Friday, Sept. 22.

The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the Warriors.

A 44th minute first half goal by sophomore Cory Furlow of Clinton and a 50th minute second half goal by sophomore Tanner Lindsey of Northwest Rankin was all the scoring ECCC would need in the shutout win.

Dylan Shoemaker out of Forest got the win in goal.

With a second grant from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation, East Central Community College (ECCC) in Decatur is enhancing and expanding its Warrior Wellness program.

The Warrior Wellness program began in the fall of 2016 with a $127,500 grant from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation in an effort to create and sustain a culture of wellness on ECCC’s campuses and in the local communities.
