​ECCC PBL Students Take Top Honors in National Competition

Members of East Central Community College’s Theta Chi Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda received top honors at the organization’s 2016 National Leadership Conference held June 24–27 in Atlanta. More than 1,700 students from across the United States participated in the conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in 60 business and business-related competitive events.
 

Knowles Selected for Mississippi INBRE Scholars Program.

Alana Knowles of Decatur, a May 2016 graduate of East Central Community College, was selected for the Mississippi INBRE Scholars program, an 11-week long summer internship which allows students to explore their chosen field of study outside of a classroom setting. 

The program, directed by Dr. Mohamed Elasri, a professor at the University of Southern Mississippi, seeks to engage talented researchers and students in biomedical research projects that will increase the state’s research competitiveness as well as impact the health of citizens of Mississippi.

East Central sports teams receive NJCAA team academic honors

Seven East Central Community College varsity sports teams earned National Junior College Athletic Association Academic Team of the Year honorable mention awards for having met the grade-point average requirement of 3.00 or better for the 2015-16 season.
 
The ECCC Diamond Warrior baseball team finished with a 3.43 GPA and ranked sixth overall.
 
The women’s basketball team also earned an honorable mention award, finishing with a 3.0 GPA.
 

ECCC student-athletes receive state, national recognition for academic performance

Several East Central Community College student-athletes received state and national recognition for academic performance during the 2015-16 academic year on the Decatur campus.

In all, 65 ECCC student-athletes were recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association, the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, or both organizations.

ECCC's Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Named to President's List

East Central Community College’s Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges, was recently recognized on the organization’s inaugural President’s List, which recognizes the 25 chapters with the highest membership acceptance rates.

According to the Phi Theta Kappa website, “the list is based on chapters’ acceptance rates in 2015. This new annual recognition serves as a way for all chapters — big and small, urban and rural — to see how their peers are performing.”
