The No. 14 ranked East Central Community College Lady Warriors compiled a 2-2 record over the two-day Rush Invitational Softball Tournament Feb. 22-23 in Meridian.

The games were played at Northeast Park Softball Complex in Meridian.

East Central is now 6-2 overall on the season.

The Lady Warriors opened the tournament Saturday morning with a 12-2, five-inning win over Parkland College out of Champaign, Ill.

The No. 21 ranked East Central Community College men’s tennis team avenged a season-opening loss to Itawamba with a 5-4 win, while the No. 20 ECCC Lady Warriors defeated the Itawamba Lady Indians 7-2 for the second time this season in matches played Friday, Feb. 21, on the ICC campus in Fulton.

With the win, the Lady Warriors are now 4-2 on the season and the Warriors are 2-3. The Itawamba men are now 3-3, while the Lady Indians are 0-5.

The two teams opened the season back on Jan. 31 with matches on the ECCC campus.

The second annual EC Cares for our Community day, a time when East Central Community College faculty, staff, and students will give back to the communities in the college’s five-county district of Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Scott and Winston counties, is scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2020.

The East Central Community College Warriors lost early leads in both games in dropping a road baseball doubleheader to the Pensacola State Pirates Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Pensacola State won by scores of 7-2 and 12-9. The two seven-inning  games were played at Pirate Field on the Pensacola State campus in Pensacola, Fla.

With the losses, East Central falls to 2-4 on the season. NJCAA Division I Pensacola State improves to 7-5.

The East Central Community College Lady Warriors completed the season sweep of the Hinds Lady Bulldogs with a 62-57 win Monday, Feb. 17, while the Warriors fell to the Bulldogs for the second time this season, this time by a score of 73-68.

The games were played at J.D. Boyd Gym on Hinds’ Utica campus.

Sophomore guard Jariyah Covington (Starkville) led the Lady Warriors with 15 points, while sophomore guard Mylisha Hammond (McComb) added 10.
