The No. 21 ranked East Central Community College men’s tennis team avenged a season-opening loss to Itawamba with a 5-4 win, while the No. 20 ECCC Lady Warriors defeated the Itawamba Lady Indians 7-2 for the second time this season in matches played Friday, Feb. 21, on the ICC campus in Fulton.
With the win, the Lady Warriors are now 4-2 on the season and the Warriors are 2-3. The Itawamba men are now 3-3, while the Lady Indians are 0-5.
The two teams opened the season back on Jan. 31 with matches on the ECCC campus.
“It was an outstanding victory for the men against a very talented team,” ECCC head tennis coach Jay Pacelli said. “There were some gutsy wins, and we played our best doubles of the young season at No. 1 and No. 2. The ladies continue to put wins together. Josie Hurst and Ali Grace Walker are hitting their stride in doubles, and Marla Graham continues outstanding singles play.”

ICC’s Julianna Alves and Maggie Creekmore defeated EC’s Natalia Beltran (Bogota, Colombia) and Alejandra Vargas (Bogota, Colombia), 8-6; EC’s Josie Hurst (Newton County) and Ali Grace Walker (Newton County) defeated ICC’s Riley Crouch and Farrah Fowlkes, 8-4; and EC’s Kayla Baucum (Newton County) and Marla Graham (Newton County Academy) defeated ICC’s Brianna Hibler and Sydney Ferguson, 8-3.
Women’s Singles Results:
EC’s Beltran defeated ICC’s Alves, 7-5, 0-6 (10-4); ICC’s Creekmore defeated EC’s Vargas, 7-5, 6-2; EC’s Walker defeated ICC’s Fowlkes, 6-3, 6-3; EC’s Hurst defeated ICC’s Crouch, 6-0, 6-2; EC’s Baucum defeated ICC’s Hibler, 6-2, 6-2; and EC’s Graham defeated ICC’s Ferguson, 6-4, 6-1.

EC’s Chris Lawrance (York, Western Australia) and Isaac Santitto (Innisfail, Queensland, Australia) defeated ICC’s Franco Roldan and Sergio Garcia, 8-3; EC’s Dylan Barnett (Newton County) and Peyton Chaney (Newton County) defeated ICC’s Reese Duncan and Hayden Embry, 8-6; and ICC’s Jacambrian Madlock and Torean King defeated EC’s Dominick Donaldson (Florence) and Chris Albert (Vicksburg, St. Aloysius), 8-2.

The East Central teams are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 22, hosting Holmes at 11 a.m. at the Tennis Complex on campus. Hinds will visit East Central for matches Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m.
