Big hits in game two helped the East Central Community College softball team split a doubleheader against Pearl River Community College in Poplarville Tuesday, March 8.
 
In game one, ECCC was unable to get on the scoreboard, losing 1-0. PRCC’s lone run came on a walk and an East Central error in the bottom of the third inning.
 
Sophomore Lacey Hill out of Kilbourne (La.) High School had a strong outing in the circle for the Lady Diamond Warriors, surrendering no earned runs and four hits, while striking out 10 batters in six innings of work.
 
East Central rebounded in game two with a six-run top of the sixth inning in the 9-1 victory.
Home runs off the bats of sophomores Katlyn Duke of Neshoba Central and Mahalia Gibson of Oak Grove High School helped power the Lady Diamond Warriors.
 
The scoring in the big sixth inning was highlighted by a two-run double by Duke and a two-run home run from Gibson.
 
Duke totaled four RBI on three hits including her solo homer in the second which allowed ECCC to take the early lead.
 
Chloe Thaggard out of Leake Academy picked up the win for the Lady Diamond Warriors allowing only one run and five hits in six innings.
 
The Lady Diamond Warriors overall record improved to 19-4 and 3-3 in the conference.
 
East Central’s softball team will be on the road to Holmes Community College Friday, March 11, for a conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Goodman.
