William Garriga faced a pivotal moment in life. Struggling to make ends meet with limited job skills and few employment prospects, he spent years working odd jobs without a clear path forward. It became evident that to secure a stable future, William needed more than temporary work—he needed a career. But like many in his position, the challenge of finding a fulfilling, financially secure path seemed overwhelming.

Determined to change his circumstances, William discovered the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program at East Central Community College. While the opportunity excited him, the cost of tuition and related expenses posed a significant barrier. That’s when he learned about the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), a program designed to provide financial assistance to individuals seeking new skills to re-enter the workforce.

With the support of WIOA, William was able to cover his training costs and enroll in the CDL program at East Central Community College. Over the course of several weeks, he mastered essential skills, safety protocols, and gained firsthand knowledge of the trucking industry.

Upon completing his training and earning his CDL, William quickly secured a position as a log truck driver with Jimmy Harris Trucking. No longer living paycheck to paycheck, he now enjoys the stability of a well-paying career—a testament to the life-changing power of education and determination.

Reflecting on his journey, William expressed deep gratitude for the support he received along the way: “The training I received has truly paid off. My case manager believed in me, and that meant everything. The East Central CDL program gave me the skills I needed, and WIOA made it all possible. Now, I’m not just getting by—I’m building a future.”

William Garriga’s story serves as an inspiring reminder that with the right support and training, it’s never too late to pursue a new career path and achieve lasting success.
