The East Central Community College Lady Diamond Warriors swept a softball doubleheader from MACJC conference foe Coahoma Community College on Saturday, March 5, in Clarksdale.
 
ECCC improved its overall record to 18-3 and 2-2 in MACJC play.
 
In a high-scoring game one, the Lady Diamond Warriors won 13-0, with 10 of those runs coming in their first three at-bats.
 
ECCC put up three runs in the first and five in the second inning en route to the five inning, run-rule game.
 
Sophomore Mahalia Gibson out of Oak Grove High School had a three-run home run in the first inning of game one to jump start East Central.
 
Both pitchers for ECCC had strong outings in the circle against Coahoma.
 
Freshman Brantlie Sheets out of Nanih Waiya High School gave up only one hit and on runs in three innings of work.  Sophomore Lacey Hill out of Kilbourne (La.) High School got the win by pitching two shutout innings of one-hit ball.
 
In game two, the Lady Diamond Warriors scored four runs in the first inning on their way to an 11-2 victory over the Lady Tigers in another five inning, run-rule game.
 
The scoring began on a passed ball, a two-run error, and an RBI double by Courtney Moore out of Clinton High School in the first inning and an RBI double by Gibson in the second inning.
 
Chloe Thaggard out of Leake Academy picked up the game two win in a strong hitless performance. Over three innings Thaggard allowed no runs, walked none and struck out four.
 
East Central’s softball team will be on the road this week against Pearl River Community College Tuesday, March 8, in Poplarville. The game is set for 3 p.m. The Lady Diamond Warriors will travel to Goodman to face Holmes Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, March 11.
