The East Central Community College Lady Warriors opened the 2019-20 basketball season with an impressive 68-33 win over Baton Rouge Community College Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Lady Bears Classic at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center in Baton Rouge, La.

ECCC starts the season 1-0, while the Lady Bears fall to 0-2.

The Lady Warriors used a pressure defense throughout the game which produced 17 steals and seven blocked shots, while forcing the Lady Bears into 20 turnovers. East Central jumped out to an early 19-5 lead that it extended to 35-13 at the half.

East Central was led by sophomore guard Jariyah Covington (Starkville) with 11 points, three assists, and a pair of steals. Freshman guard/forward Ja’Lancia Kohlheim (Tupelo) scored eight points, sophomore guard Mylisha Hammond (McComb) had seven points, and sophomore guard Destini Cathey (Senatobia) and sophomore guard/forward KeiMoya Walker (Jackson, Murrah) added six each. Walker and Hammond each had four steals. Sophomore guard/forward Makaila Carter (Boutte, La., Hahnville) led the Lady Warriors with six rebounds.

Second year Head Coach LaTaryl Williams was able to play 14 Lady Warriors in the win.

The Lady Warriors are next in action Thursday, Nov. 14, when they travel to Scooba to face East Mississippi in a 5:30 p.m. contest.

The first home action of the season is the EC Classic Nov. 25-26 in Brackeen-Wood Gym on the campus in Decatur. East Central will face LSU-Eunice at 1 p.m. on Nov. 25 and Coahoma at 1 p.m. on Nov. 26.
