The East Central Community College Lady Warriors shutout an opponent for the first time since the opening match of the season, while the Warriors fell to an undefeated opponent for the second straight match as Southwest Mississippi visited Decatur on Friday, Sept. 21.

The Lady Warriors beat the Lady Bears 3-0 in the opening match, while the Warriors fell 7-2 to the Bears in the nightcap. The matches were played in Bailey Stadium on the ECCC campus.

After a scoreless first half, East Central got two goals from sophomore defender Haley Jones of Pelahatchie and one from freshman forward Macey Spencer out of Florence in the non-division match. The Lady Warriors are now 3-6 overall on the season, while the Lady Bears fell to 0-7

“It was a great team performance from the girls and a long overdue clean sheet,” said ECCC head women’s coach Ryan Joiner. “The girls were fantastic playing out of the back tonight, and to add a shutout only proves they are figuring out what we are implementing at training which will help push us along through the second half of our North Division matches.”

The Lady Warriors will host LSU-Eunice Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m., before taking on Gulf Coast on Friday, Sept. 28, also at 2 p.m. Both matches will be at the Soccer Field in Decatur.

In the men’s matchup, East Central fell behind 4-0 at the half and could never catch up. Scoring second half goals for the Warriors were sophomore midfielders Vitor Gomes of Fortaleza, Brazil, and Francisco Romero of Ripley.

East Central fell to 2-6 on the season, while Southwest improved to 7-0.

The Warriors will host Jones College Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. and then Gulf Coast on Friday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m., both at the Soccer Field on the East Central campus in Decatur.
