A pair of free throws by freshman point guard Jaylon Chiles with eight seconds to play gave the East Central Community College Warriors a 64-62 win over Coahoma Community College in the season opener played in Clarksdale Thursday, Nov. 3.

Chiles, a product of Biloxi High School, scored 11 points and dished out four assists in just 13 minutes of play.

East Central led by as many as 12 points in the first half before the Tigers closed the gap to 32-27 at intermission.

Coahoma tied the contest at 62-62 with 30 seconds to play before Chiles hit his game-winning free throws.

Freshman forward Antonio Clark out of Leake Central High School also had 11 points for the Warriors in just five minutes of play. Another freshman, guard Jaquan Dotson from Neshoba Central High School, led East Central in rebounds with seven. He also scored nine points.

The Warriors outrebounded Coahoma 51-39. East Central played 11 freshmen in the contest.

East Central starts the season 1-0, while Coahoma is 0-1.

The Warriors are back in action at home twice next week. Shelton State Community College of Tuscaloosa, Ala., will come to Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium on Monday, Nov. 7. East Mississippi Community College will be in Decatur on Thursday, Nov. 10. Tipoff for both games is 7:30 p.m.
