Students who transferred from East Central Community College to Mississippi’s public four-year universities earned the highest cumulative grade-point average among community college transfers in the state, according to the latest data from the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL).
ECCC transfer students posted a cumulative 3.38 GPA, ranking first among Mississippi’s 15 community colleges.
The achievement continues a history of strong academic performance by East Central students after transferring to four-year institutions and demonstrates the preparation students receive while attending ECCC.
ECCC President Dr. Brent Gregory said the results reflect the college’s commitment to preparing students for success beyond East Central, regardless of the path they choose.
“This data is another strong indication that East Central prepares our students for what comes next,” said Gregory. “Whether they leave ECCC to enter the workforce or continue their education at a four-year university, our goal is the same, to make sure they are prepared to succeed. A 3.38 GPA and a No. 1 ranking among Mississippi’s community colleges speaks volumes about the quality of our students, our faculty, and the education taking place at East Central.”
East Central Community College offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees designed for students planning to continue their education at a four-year college or university, with numerous areas of concentration available.
Through Mississippi’s statewide articulation agreement, courses completed at the state’s community colleges can transfer to Mississippi’s public universities in accordance with the agreement, helping provide students with an affordable pathway toward a bachelor’s degree.
ECCC also offers career and technical education and healthcare programs designed to prepare graduates to enter the workforce in high-demand fields.
