The East Central Community College soccer teams traveled to Fulton Friday, Oct. 6, for a pair of important MACJC North Division soccer matches against Itawamba Community College, with the men’s team picking up an important win.

The Warriors scored the game winner in the 83rd minute to defeat the Indians 2-1. Sophomore defender Cory Furlow out of Clinton got the winning goal, assisted by freshman midfielder Chris Perez of Forest.

An early goal by freshman forward Hunt Holdiness of Warren Central, assisted by sophomore wing Joseph Stewart of Callaway High School, gave ECCC a 1-0 halftime lead. ICC tied the match in the 47th minute and Furlow’s goal won it late.

The Warriors are now 7-5-1 overall on the season and 3-2-1 in league play, good enough for a tie for second place in the MACJC North Division. Itawamba fell to 6-5-1 and 3-2-1.

The Lady Warriors dropped a 2-0 decision to the Lady Indians in the first match of the day. The match was scoreless at the half before ICC added two early second half goals for the shutout win.

The East Central women fell to 3-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the league. The Lady Indians improved to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the North Division.

The East Central teams next face Northwest Mississippi Community College in North Division matches in Senatobia on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The women will face off at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.

The Warriors and Lady Warriors will play their final home matches of the season Friday, Oct. 13, against North Division opponent Hinds Community College at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Soccer Complex on the Decatur campus.
